About me & this blog

The truth is, I’ve been trying to write blogs for years. I think I started three different blogs and that is just in the past year. This time I’ve decided to do it differently. I used to get bored and would stop writing, but this time I’m not going to quit! This is the moment you think: Yeah right, whatever. That’s fine, I’m going to make it my life’s goal to prove you wrong. (Isn’t it a great way to start your blog by insulting your readers? I thought so.)

No, let’s be serious. I used to get bored with my blogs, because I used to write about complete nonsense, so this time I’m giving myself certain challenges. I’m not saying that my blog won’t be about complete nonsense now, but at least I will keep writing (nonsense). It’s my goal to write something every weekday. That’s Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. This still seems pretty boring, but wait for it…

Every day has a certain theme. MoodyMondays, How-to-Tuesdays, WhateverWednesdays,ThankfulThursdays and Face-off-Fridays. The themes might sound silly right now, but it will all make sense once you keep reading. BTW, this blog isn’t about making sense, it’s about having fun and making people smile. (That sounds cheesy, right?) Ooh, before I forget, the themes might change over time. There’s always the possibility I get this OMG-moment and think of this amazing new theme I just have to share with you. (Assuming there are actually people reading this blog ofcourse.)

Okay, so before I start my first weekday post, let me tell you some things about myself. First of all, I’m not a native English speaker so sorry for any grammatically incorrect sentences. But I mean, at least I speak a second language… So just deal with it! Side note: To all you people out there who do speak a second language and who are so f*cking perfect they never make mistakes. I’m so sorry for my incompetence.

What is my first language? It’s Dutch. I’m from the Netherlands, and no I’ve never done drugs. So why don’t I write this blog in Dutch? It’s very simple math. Only 0,32% of the world’s population speaks Dutch. And 97% of this 0,32% speaks English. Are you still with me? It basically means that 97% of the people that speak Dutch also speak English. In the end it is all about readers. If I write in English more people across the world can read my blog and I’m egocentric, so I want a lot of readers.  So f*ck it!

(I usually don’t swear this much, but that’s just how people talk on the internet. I just want to belong. F*ck, f*ck, f*ck. Do you like me yet?)

And another reason I write this blog in English? Both my parents are part of the 3% that don’t speak English. Which means they have no idea what I’m writing here.

I still haven’t told you anything about myself have I? I mean you know I’m Dutch, you know I have never done drugs and that’s it. So let me be a bit more informative. My name is Charlotte (well, to be honest, it’s Lotte. But Lotte’s corner just didn’t sound right). I’m 20 years old and a student at the university of Leiden. (It’s in the Netherlands, look it up. I mean that’s what Google is for.) At Leiden I’m studying Film and Literary Sciences, which in no way means I know what I’m talking about when I’m discussing books or movies.

This post is getting way longer than I anticipated. (I was really debating whether it’s than or then in this sentence, but I feel confident about my final decision.) I’m so sorry. Let me wrap it up. I love writing and being creative. This blog is just my way of getting rid of all my useless creativity.

Who knows, maybe this blog may actually become a success (or maybe I’m just this pathetic girl, alone in her room, writing the dumbest stories).

  1. Anne Frank was a pathetic girl, alone in her room, writing the dumbest stories too. Sometimes it’s important to write not because you have anything innovative to offer, but because you have a perspective that is human and singularly yours. And I love your attempt to “belong” in the internet community!

  2. Firstly, I’m massively depressed that your second language is English and you can already write better than me. Secondly, your blog is amazing! This idea you have had for theming days of the week is so on point! And I don’t think there was a point where I wasn’t smiling in your bio there. I sort of really hate you if I’m honest, but it’s a good hate! Glad I stumbled across your corner! Looking forward to the next post Lotte!
Ps. I don’t get the whole drugs thing, are drugs legal in the Netherlands? You’ll have to pardon me, I failed geography. Along with every other subject. I wasn’t a good kid.
Pps. Welcome to the fuck club, I’ll mail you a name tag badge👍

    1. Thanks for this amazing comment! This just put a smile on my face. And I can accept some good hatred. I can live with that. As for the drugs… Yep, they’re legal here. Can’t wait till I get my badge! 😀 You’re awesome, Leroy!

      1. Hey I’m glad it did, I’ll take credit for that! All about positive vibes! Me, awesome? I don’t mean to be modest but yes, I must concur, what can I say. I still don’t think I’m on level with you however. Maybe we can share a cup of tea and you can’t share your wisdom with me! Thank you for the kind reply, I really appreciate it 🙂 keep in touch!

  3. Hi charlotte. I really like the concept of your blog. I am looking forward in reading your posts. Also, we’re on the same spot. English is not my first language as I am a Filipino and this isn’t my first blog.

  4. ‘Than’ was correct, of course. I nearly typed ‘curse’. Enjoy your English; I did begin Dutch/Flemish but with a Polish son-in-law, his language ought to be taken on first. Thanks for liking Will Turnstone.

  5. I’m with you on the starting many blogs thing over the years. I’ve always wanted to start one and stick to it and every time I ended up making some excuse and quitting. Hopefully, this time will be different, and while I hope that what I post gets better over time, like you I think that just getting something out there will be a big first step!
I look forward to checking out more of your posts! Bedtime for me now though it is 3:09 AM here in the central US. Have a great one!

    1. Luckily, I’ve been able to keep this blog going. I realised that it’s okay to not write for a while and come back when I feel inspired. So I guess that would be a tip from me!
Thanks for the kind words and I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for your posts as well. Have a good night! Over here in Europe a new day has just started. Time to get to work! 😑

  6. @ your “F*ck, f*ck, f*ck” I was laughing and remembered the middle finger scene from the “Mr.Bean – The Movie 1997”. Check it out at;

Your blog’s intro is so much like a breath of fresh air. Wonderfully written.
